So much Harry Potter fun!

I am finding so many fun Harry Potter things on Buzz Feed but cant find a way to share them on my blog - arg!

here is a video I saw on there, I can atleast share this as it is on youtube!
a funny video of a woman making a flaming butterbeer - i think my favourite part is at the end where she appears to think it is Sir Ian Mckellan who plays Dumbledore!

Team Unicorn all the way!

Well I have been very busy/lazy and haven't updated this for a while, so have a little bit to catch up on.

Last weekend was fantastic. I went to the Sydney Roller Derby - Pulp Friction - with my closest friends. The team I had chosen to make 'my team' - the Beauty School Knockouts - weren't playing in the main bout so I decided to support Team Unicorn - the Horny Rollers, predominantly as their Jammer, Winnie Bruise, is just phenominal.
So my bestie and I made rainbow tutu style skirts (Team Unicorn colours are rainbow) so we could show our support for the unicorns. I was still only half heartedly in support of the Unicorns, like I said, I liek their jammer but didnt really know enough about them otherwise to mind if they won or lost....well, that's how I felt BEFORE the bout started anyway!
As the teams took to the track with their introductory performances I found myself becoming more excited for team unicorn - who wouldnt love a performance that starts with 'Somewhere over the rainbow' and ends with 'born this way' by lady Gaga? However the real excitement began with the commencement of the first jam. With Winnie Bruise in as Jammer she flew past the pack in her typical fashion and proceeded to clock up the first points for the Unicorns.
At this point I was still cheering more for Winniw than for the Unicorns as a whole, but as time progressed and I watched the other girls play I began to feel an affinity with the rest of the players - Miss Sin Doll was another great jammer and Captain Ratz and the Mighty Toosh were great blockers!
With each passing moment I felt myself becoming more excited when the Unicorns would score (or prevent the D'Viants from scoring) and more and more tense if the Unicorns weren't lead jammers or if the D'Viants scored.
by the end of the game i found myself doing something i have never done with any sporting match - I REALLY cared about who won! I was cheering - SCREAMING for the Unicorns. I was on the edge of my seat, I was tense, i was nervous, I was completely immersed in the game!
With 3 minutes left on the clock the D'Viants had come from behind to take a 28 point lead - it didn't seem that the Unicorns would be able to come back from that. I was sitting on the edge of my seat, cheerign with all my might as Miss Sin Doll proved me wrong and clocked up a 29 point jam to bring the unicorns ahead by 1 point with 20 secondes left on the clock! A final Jam with Winnie Bruise in as lead jammer sealed the deal, ensuring a victory for the Unicorns - who thus retained their undefeated status.
the next bout on 6th August will determin who will face the unicorns in the final - personally I dont mind who it is. After the way I felt last Saturday night I know my blood runs rainbow - Team Unicorn through and through!

Yoga... how i have missed thee!

Years ago when I used to go to fitness first gym, I attended the yoga classes of a wednesday night. I had been to other yoga classes, and whilst I have always enjoyed doing yoga, the classes at the gym never really impressed me. But when I went to the Wednesday night classes, run by a man named Nigel, I was blown away. Never had I enjoyed a class so much! He made something that I already loved even more enjoyable! It is hard to pin-point exactly what it is about his class that made it so good, it was just what he brought to it that made it so superior to those taught by other instructors. He REALLY knew what he was doing, he would demonstrate but also walk around the class to personally help each individual, he had a calming voice without sounding fake or having that deliberate "yoga/meditation" tone to his voice, and the poses he does in his class are just excellent.
Well, one day the gym cancelled the Wednesday night yoga class. I dont know why, it certianly wasn't due to lack of numbers as the class was always full. Regardless of the reason, the class was cancelled and I was devistated! This was around 4 years ago. Last week while at the gym I happened to notice a sign that said "Monday night Yoga with Nigel" - well did my eyes light up!!! surely it must be the same Nigel!
So tonight off I went to the gym, full of excitement, and I wasn't disappointed! it WAS the same Nigel and the class was every bit as excellent as I remember it being! I came home very happy tonight! If only it was on more than once a week!

WTG New York!

Soooo excited to hear that today New York has legalized gay marriage!!!!! I will be very glad when Australia eventually catched up, and I hope it is sooner rather than later! I really hope when my daughter grows up that she will have the right to marry the person she loves, regardless of whether that person is a man or a woman!

Whoops... I've been a bit slack...

... I haven't been udating this very regularly at all! Well time to bring everything up to speed!

I am thrilled with my weightloss so far - 8kg in 5 weeks :) my clothes are starting to become a bit lose, especially my jeans, which is a nice feeling! I am a bit concerned at how the next weigh in will go however! It is my birthday in 4 days time so I am having my best friends around tonight for a fun night in. Although I am trying to keep the snacks as healthy as possible, and I wont be drinking (maybe one glass of wine) I just know I will blow out my calories for the day! To make matters worse I havent done any exercise today! I will just have to work extra hard tomorrow and hope that I dont gain any weight this week!

Waiting Sucks

that should keep me going for 2 weeks...

'True Blood' Cast PSA

I definately suffer from TBWithdrawal!!!

Feeling Proud

I am feeling pretty proud at the moment...
I am entering my 4th week of the 12WBT which is the week to do a second fitness test.
In the very first week we needed to not only weigh in, but take our measurements and complete a fitness test that consisted of:
seeing how quickly I could run 1km
seeing how many push-ups I can do in 1min
seeing which level I could do a full sit-up at (ranging from arms straigh out front to arms straight above head with 3 other options in between)
seeing how long I can do a wall-sit for
seeing how far past my toes I can reach.

Well I did my fitness test today. I have a feeling I could do the run slightly quicker, however it had been raining outside, the ground was soooooo sloppy I was really worried I would slip, fall and twist my knee (it wouldt be the first time that had happened!)
despite not going full pelt I still shaved 1 1/2 mins off my run time from the first fitness test!
I also added an extra 7 push-ups to the amount I can do in 1 min, went from not being able to even do a level 1 sit-up to being able to do level 3, went from a 57 second wall sit to a 1min30sec wall sit and increased my sit and reach from 7cm to 12.5cm!

I was feeling proud enough about that but then when I did my measurements I found I have lost a total of 27.5cm from my body in the past 3 weeks!

So I am definately feeling very proud of myself, I am seeing results in both my body and my fitness which is really exciting! It really helps with my motivation to keep going and see how much more I can improve.

Pump, pump it up...

I went to a Pump gym class tonight for the first time in over a year - I had forgotten how much I love Pump! It is easily my favourite class! I know I will be sore tomorrow, already my leg muscles are very sore! It is a good sore tho! I am looking forward to making this a weekly thing (unfortunately due to the gym timetable I can only get to one pump class a week), and I cant wait to see how I progress with being able to increase the weights I use.

I think it is so funny how much it is possible to push your body to do things when you are in a class environment. I know that if I were doing squats/lunges/situps at home I could push myself to a certain extent, but when I'm in a gym class I always manage to push myself that much further than if I were doing it alone. I guess for me it is the motivation from the instructor along with hte sense that I dont want anyone else in the class to see that I cant do it, so I push myself to go that extra mile.

I have to say I am feeling very proud of myself with my weightloss and fitness, although i wish I was losing more weight off my legs and less off my boobs! lol!

2km...

that's how far I ran tonight.... I ran for 14 1/2 mins non stop and went 2km. this is the longest I have run for in one go, so I am feeling pretty proud of myself! I'm also feeling hot and sweaty but that is beside the point!

I am starting to notice the difference in my body, not a MASSIVE difference, but i can feel some of my clothes, particularly my jeans, are feeling a little looser around the waist and the other night when I went out a strapless dress thst used to fit quite snug, kept slipping down (luckily I had a jacket on over the top so my modesty remained in tact!)

I am finally under 80kg for the first time in a loooong time! this is the first time in all of the times I have attempted to lose weight that it is actually feeling achieveable. I can see and feel the difference, I am enjoying the exercise and am getting myself into a routine with it and I am getting exciting results! It makes me very excited for when I lose the next 9kgs and am back into the 60s! I can see that buying size 12 clothes is in my future, and in the NEAR future rather than just a far off wish!

getting easier

I did a step aerobic class tonight. I did the same class last tuesday night and it felt like it was gonna kill me! for the second portion of the class I didn't use the step at all but did the moves on the flat ground. Tonight however I am proud to say I did the whole class using my step the entire time :) It was really exciting to find that although it was still tough and I was mightily puffed out by the end of it, it was much easier tonight than last tuesday! I am looking forward to next tuesday to see how much easier it will be then :)

Tomorrow is weigh-in day. I am hoping to see a 1-2kg loss. I feel like I am noticing a bit of a difference in my body, but not sure if that is just wishful thinking or not! All in all I feel like I m doing well, my heart rate monitor helps me keep on track with my work-outs (I know I talk about the heart rate monitor often, but seriously it is awesome!), and I am keeping well within my 1200cal/day - most days I struggle to reach the allotted 1200cal.

Busy Busy

This week has been a busy one for me, my boss has been on holidays so I am in charge at work, which inevitably means more work and longer hours. Very glad tomorrow is his last day off for a little while!

I was very excited on Wednesday morning when I weighed myself for my first official 12wbt weigh in - I have lost 4.1kg so far! Feeling very proud of myself.

Today was a bit of a harder day, I have felt very tired all day and have had massive cravings for junk food, but I'm pleased to say I resisted the temptation! I am looking forward to next Wednesday and hopefully seeing the scales 1-2kg lighter than I am now. That is what I kept reminding myself of today when I wanted cake, or chocolate, or take away... just think of next Wednesday and the results I want to see on the scales....

I am finding exercising easier at the moment with having the heart rate monitor - not easy in the sense that it is easy to DO, but easier in that when I look at how many calories I have actually burnt, if it isnt at a level I want to be, it is easier to find that motivation to push myself a bit harder to get those extra calories burnt.

My biggest exercise challenge so far was a step class I did on tuesday night. OMG I thought I was gonna die! Out of breath, heart racing, face red as a tomato, sweat pouring off me - I gave it my all.... and then some! It was a great achievement to finish the class though, and I burnt over 800 calories  so that was pretty awesome!

feeling proud....hungry, but proud

Yesterday was the first day I really took notice of my calorie intake in preparation for the 12WBT starting on Monday.
It wasn't the easiest day to start, I was at a friends place for both lunch and dinner, so the temptation to grab some easy food like take-away was pretty hard to resist. But instead of giving in like I ALWAYS do, I went for the healthy option! For lunch, while everyone else had sausages on rolls I had a chicken, avocado and cherry tomato wrap and some salad and for dinner while everyone had pizza and cookies I had a 6" chicken teriyaki sub from subway. I was soooo tempted to have one of the subway cookies as well, but I didnt and I was really glad that I didn't!
Today I have continued in this trend and had another chicken and avocado wrap for lunch. I am feeling a bit hungry now and have had to try really hard to stop myself grabbing something from the kitchen, but I have managed to resist the temptation so far and I keep telling myelf - if I have resisted the temptation so far, I can continue to resist it!
Later on today I will do my fitness test for the 12wbt - I need to run/walk for 1km and time myself. I live right next to an oval but there have been sports played on it all day so far, I'm hoping they will finish soon so I can use it to run around. I'm looking forward to using my heart rate monitor too!

Gearing up

I got my polar heart rate monitor today! very excited! this will help with my fitness/weight loss as it not only shows my heart rate, but it shows exactly how many calories I will be burning, and it keeps a track of all my workouts. Very pleased with this purchase!
I gave it a very quick try and it works beautifully, almost makes me wish I was going to gym tonight instead of going to the movies! I will get a chance to try it out properly tomorrow when I go for my first roller skating lesson!

12WBT - bring it on!

The last time I managed to get myself focussed and lose weight was when I was doing the Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation challenge so I have decided to do it again, and this time I'll finish it!

I have reactivated my gym membership and made sure I can use my membership at both my local gyms since one closes at 9pm so I know I can use the other one. I am also going to buy a polar heart rate monitor so I can see how many calories I am burning during a workout so that I know if i need to push harder. I also have an app on my phone to track my calorie intake during the day.

Basically I am arming myself with as many tools as I can to ensure that I get through the 12 weeks (begining next monday) and make them a success. Ultimately I want to lose 20-25kg, if i can lose 12kg over the next 12 weeks, then I will sign up to the 12wbt again and get rid of the remaining 12 kg over that 12 weeks, which will mean that HOPEFULLY by the start of summer I will be down to my goal weight, or atleast damn close to it!

I need to keep myself focussed on the end result - yes that late night snack might seem appealing, but MY GOD it will feel good to go into summer and be able to buy gorgeous sun dresses and shorts! It was so long ago that this was a possibility it seems almost unrealistic, but i KNOW that I can do it!

Finally Blogspot is up and running again!

I have tried a few times to get in and post but Blogspot kept having errors!

Well time for some blatant honesty again - weight loss just hasnt been happening - I havent really been trying to be honest. I havent been eating bad food most of the time, but I have still been eating too much and I havent done a scrap of exercise.
I'm quite ashamed of myself, I just dont seemt o be able to do this on my own! I suppose there is no shame in needing a bit of help tho.
So I have signed up for Michelle Bridges 12 week Body Transformation Challenge. I signed up to this last year at this same time of year and for the 4 weeks I did really well, I lost 5kg and was doing really well with eating and exercise. The I was stupid and decided to use Duromine (a prescription weight loss drug that is basically a derrivative of speed) to try and help increase my weight loss. Well that was a BIG mistake! I had an allergic reaction to it that affected my breathing. For a week I struggled to breath properly and then it took another 2 weeks on top of that to get back to normal. Unfortunately instead of getting back on track and taking this as a lesson to avoid quick fixes, I was discouraged, got lazy and didnt finish off the 12 weeks. I easily fell back into old habits and bad food.
This time I am determined to complete the full 12 weeks in the same way I did the first 4 weeks last time - with enthusiasm and sticking to the plan! hopefully I will lose 10-12 kg and that will put me half way to my goal.

From Dusk Til Derby

What a FANTASTIC night I had! Headed to Sydney Olympic Park for the second bout of the Sydney League Roller Derby with 3 great friends and (as I knew I would) I had an absolute ball!

Dressing up was a must - had my hair done today so it is now a nice bright red - then I donned some fishnets, long red and black striped socks, skirt and shirt and off to derby we went!

The first bout was a mini-bout (20min halves instead of 30 min) between Team Unicorn and the Western Sydney Boutlaws. I'm not a big fan of Team Unicorn because of (a) their name, (b) their logo/mascot (c) their supporters are just MENTAL (unicorn heads on sticks anyone?) but I gotta say, as a team, they are pretty awesome! They have some killer players on there, especially Winnie Bruise - she is an AMAZING Jammer, which in a way is surprising as she is quite tall. From my observations shorter gals make better jammers as they can duck and weave amongst the pack a biteasier, but Winnie is just so goddamn fast her height doesnt matter! the other players were fantastic as well, their names escape me and my program is not within reach and I am too cold to move to grab it so I will try to remember to blog about them another time! But the whole team were amazing. The Western Sydney Outlaws tried really heard, but it is obvious the skill level just isnt quite on par with the unicorns. In saying that they did a great job too, particularly the pack, they put a few great hits on the unicorns and I look forward to seeing them again at the next bout.

The second bout was the main event - the Screaming Assault Sirens vs the D'Viants. WOW what a game!!!! Right from the outset there was no way to tell who would win, the scores remained soooooo close the entire time that, as much as this is a cliche, it really WAS anyones game! I was rooting for the S.A.S and my two favourite players were Dizzie Borden (the captain) and Trippy Longstocking. Dizzie was a kick-ass jammer! more often than not at the beigining of the jam she would be behind the D'Viant's jammer but then out of no-where she would zip through, break through the pack and become the lead jammer! once she was in the lead there was no stopping her - great to watch! Trippy was a killer blocker - there was no getting past her, atleast not without copping a massive hit in the process!
The D'Viants had a fantastic team as well, particularly their captain Haterade - speed skater extrordinaire! some of the best jams were when the two jammers were Dizzie and Haterade - both such AMAZING jammers that it made for an action packed 2mins!
By the 2nd last jam the S.A.S were ahead by 2 points but then they didnt get their team onto the track quick enough (including their jammer) which resulted in there only being 2 S.A.S blockers on the track and no S.A.S jammer! Haterade was jamming for the D'Viants so she took advantage of having the track basically to herself (especially as she had no difficulty getting past the only 2 S.A.S blockers, no matter how hard they tried) and she clocked up a 25 point scoring jam! Completely changed the game! Even though in the final Jam the S.A.S were able to pick up a few points it was all over, the D'Viants won!

Then to top it all off after the game was finished an amazing roller skate cake made by the brilliant Planet Cake was rolled out onto the track, resulting in a massive food fight between the teams - looks like they had a great time, although I dont envy the cleaner having to clean squashed cake and fondant off the polished wood floor!

Fantastic night, so much fun was had - cant wait for the next one! Bring on June 4th!

Pin-up Perfection

I seriously can't get enough of Gil Elvgren !!!!
If you dont know who he is, Elvgren was an American artist who painted "girl next-door" style pin-ups - you have probably seen alot of them without even realising it. Infact the girl in my background is a Gil Elvgren painting!
A quick google search will open you up to the world of Gil Elvgren, but to get you started here is one of my favourites!

RED!

Is the colour of my hair at the moment, or I should say, the front half of my hair. When I say red I dont mean orange red either, I am taking full on bright redish pink... and I am LOVING it! The colour in at the moment (Red Corvette by Fudge) is a wash out colour, so I am heading to the hairdressers asap to get ALL of my hair done, in a permenant bright red colour... ideally I will have it done ready for derby on Saturday night!

I can't get enough of this soundtrack!

I am LOVING the Whip It soundtrack! Great movie with a kick-ass soundtrack!

Listened to it in the car on the way to watch hubby play football(soccer) with my little girl riding along with me... as soon as "boys want to be her" by Peaches came on she said "ooh this is from Whip It!" and made me play it twice in a row!

What a brilliant day!

Today was my little girl's 5th birthday party and what an awesome party it was! It was a Disney Princess theme and all the kiddies came dressed as their favourte princess, it was fantastic!
I was able to really enjoy the party as I hired the AMAZING people from  The Party Kingdom to come and run the party for me. These ladies are seriously awesome, they kept the kids entertained from start to finish - and with 12 5 year olds that is no mean feat!

Then the arvo was tops, our best friends stayed after the party and we had a bit of fun colouring each other's hair - the front of my hair is now a BRIGHT red/pink and I am loving it.... considering doing all of my hair in that colour!

It's 2:17 am and the cake is finished

So this is a terrible photo I took on my phone, but here is my daughter's 5th birthday cake. I'm fairly pleased with it, it isnt my best work, but I gotta say, it's not bad for something I only started at 8pm... so what's that.... 6 hours work.... so yea, I'm pleased.
The photo doesn't show it but the castle has been painted with luster dust, so it has a lovely shimmer to it and then I have also put on edible glitter so it sparkles too :) Hopefully my little princess is ahppy with it for her Princess Party tomrrow.

Speaking of which - omg birthday party tomorrow!!! Soooo glad i havesomeone running the party for me, I still have so much to organise and set up in the morning before the guests arrive (soooo many little kids - eek!) so I REALLY need to get some sleep, but I am WIDE AWAKE! Aproximately 6 hours until I need to start setting up, I may need to get an energy drink when I wake up.... I think it's gonna be a long, but fun, day!

Can't get enough of watching this!

wishing for some veggies

So back from dinner... feeling bloated and yuck - I really don't care for MacDonalds, the sensible thing for me to have done would have been to eat at home after coming home from MacDonalds (instead of eating maccas, not in addition to eating maccas!) right now i'm wishing I had eaten veggies and lots of them for dinner!

5 WONDERFUL years...

Today is my beautiful daughter's 5th birthday. What a wonderful 5 years it has been! She consistantly brings joy and laughter to my life... case in point, she is currently playing Barbies and I just overheard her saying:
"wow you can run in space? how? there's no gravity!" "well there is in THIS space!"
I fear any healthiness will go out the window tonight as it is birthday girl's choice of dinner.... her choice? MacDonalds!

A bit of excitement...

Ok, now that the less exciting post is out of the way, time for something I am a bit excited about....

THE NEXT SYDNEY ROLLER DERBY BOUT!!!!

                                    (image from http://www.sydneyrollerderby.com/)

From Dusk till Derby is on May 6th at Sydney Olympic Park and I'm excited!!! A night out with the girls to see some derby! My chosen team, The Beauty School Knock Outs, aren't playing in this bout so I need to decide who I will be cheering for so I can select an outfit accordingly.

Although I have only just started following derby (and yes, had it not been for the movie "Whip It" I wouldn't even know what derby is) but I have fast fallen in love with it! Tough women playing a fast and fun sport all set to rockin music is a sport I can get on board with! I am so thrilled that the sport is really taking off over here - 2 extra teams in the sydney league this year, hopefully even more next year!

I will be starting to learn to skate soon, I have my skates, helmet, wrist/elbow/knee guards and a derby name... all I need is the ability to skate (a minor detail), but hopefully one day I will be out on the track as a derby girl instead of just cheering them on! (and as someone who has never had the slightest interest in participating in a sport this is pretty huge for me!)

A bit of honesty

Now that I am more awake than I was at 2:30 this morning, it is time for my first proper entry.

As i said before, one of my main reasons to start this blog is to keep myself honest and accountable with weight-loss. So here it goes..... I currently weigh *shudder* 85.8kg. At a height of 163cm that is waaaay too heavy. I was thinking about it earlier, and I came to the sad realisation I have been over weight for nearly 10 years now... that is nearly 1/3 of my life! When I think of it in those terms it upsets me greatly - I used to be quite thin until I moved out of home, then within 2 years of moving out I pushed my weight into the overweight/obese realm where it has remained.
I can remember looking in my wardrobe and not really caring what I wore that day as I knew it would look great and I can remember what it was like walking into a clothes store and knowing if I saw something I liked I could buy it as it would look good on and they would have it in my size. Nowadays however i often spend up to half an hr trying to decide what to wear to best hide my muffin-top or to disguise my fat thighs. I avoid clothes shopping as it is so depressing to find an outfit I love and either (a) have it look horrible on as it is too short or too figure-hugging or (b) not be able to find it in my size.
Well no more! my goal is to get back into size 10-12 which will bring me back into a healthy weight for my height. This means losing atleast 20kgs. A loss of aprox 1kg/week would be great, but I will be happy with 3kg/month - that gives me a realistic goal of 7 months to lose my 20kg - and hey, if i lose it a bit quicker all the better!

Monday, 25 April 2011

After hours of fussing about....

....my blog is ready!

I had planned to write a big long first entry, however as I have spent the past 5 hours making my template (had I had a firm idea in mond of what to do it may not have taken quite so long!), I think I will keep it simple for now - it is past 2am and bed calls...

Initially I decided to do this blog in order to keep me honest on my weight-loss journey (I find unless I am forced to hold myself accountable I tend to cheat and thus never lose any weight), so chronicalling my weight, exercise and struggles with temptation will be one of my bigger focuses... HOWEVER... I will also use this as a place to prattle on about my many interests and passions (including roller derby, rockabilly and many geeky things....Harry Potter anyone?!)

So for now I head to bed, but I will endeavour to keep this updated regularly!

until next time...
